Finding the right college isn't just about academic success; it's about discovering the perfect environment to fuel your learning, launch your career, and, most importantly, realize your dreams. To help students identify this ideal fit, many high schoolers participate in a series of assessments. These aren't simply tests; they're valuable tools designed to enhance self-understanding and guide informed decisions about the future. Specifically, personality assessments offer crucial insights that help us:

  • Find the Right College Fit: We use these results to understand your learning preferences and personality, helping us identify colleges where you'll feel comfortable and succeed.

  • Explore Potential Majors: Understanding your strengths and interests helps us guide you towards majors that align with your passions and abilities.

  • Discover Career Paths: These assessments can reveal career paths that naturally suit your skills and personality.

As part of the onboarding process at Frances Carhart Educational Consulting, each student completes a series of online assessments by AchieveWorks. These assessments—covering personality, learning style, skills, and intelligences—are essential to my goal as a college advisor: to understand the unique qualities of each client in order to find their “best fit.” This understanding helps to foster the foundation for personalized guidance and support throughout the college application journey.

Here's a breakdown of the four key assessments:

1. Personality Assessment (MBTI-Based):

Your personality type (e.g., ISFJ), strengths, challenges, and preferred work environments. Understanding your personality helps you make informed choices about your education and career.

2. Learning and Productivity Assessment:

Your sensory learning style (visual, auditory, kinesthetic), environmental preferences, and productivity habits. Knowing your learning style empowers you to maximize your academic success.

3. Skills Assessment (HEXACO-Based):

Your proficiency in critical skills and skill facets, aligned with the HEXACO theory. Skills are essential for success in college and the workplace. This assessment helps you identify and develop your strengths.

4. Multiple Intelligences and Emotional Intelligence (EI) Assessment:

Your strengths in nine multiple intelligences (e.g., linguistic, logical- mathematical) and your EI traits. Understanding your intelligences empowers you to choose a career path that aligns with your natural abilities.

Self-Reflection and Unlocking Your Future:

These assessments are tools for self-discovery. They help you understand your strengths, preferences, and potential. By leveraging this knowledge, you can make informed decisions about your college journey and beyond.

Remember, the goal is to find a college and career path where you'll not only succeed but also thrive. These assessments can be a valuable, helpful step in that process!
